Learn urban analysis, masterplanning and placemaking skills to design places where people and nature thrive.
Watch the video for an overview of the training.
Programme
Using London’s Olympic Park landscapes and regeneration areas as a living classroom, we’ll explore best practice in designing compact neighbourhoods, sustainable movement networks and nature-rich public spaces.
This training is for built environment, ecology and sustainability professionals, and anyone interested in creating well-designed and sustainable places.
It's co-lead by EcoResponsive Environments and Green Urbanist.
Study Tour (10:00 - 13:00)
The morning begins with a guided study tour around the Olympic regeneration areas and landscapes.
We'll analyse and draw lessons from the place, from the landscape scale to detailed design considerations.

Masterplanning Workshop (14:00 - 17:00)
After the lunch break, we’ll spend the afternoon at a local venue applying the lessons learned through practical exercises.
We’ll explore the Ecoresponsive Environments framework for designing places that work with nature.
You’ll then work in groups on a masterplanning exercise for a real site so you can experience this approach to urban design first-hand.

What you'll learn:
Start with nature in the design process.
Design sustainable and climate-resilient places and spaces.
Masterplanning principles for streets, urban blocks and green and blue infrastructure.
Detailed design considerations to enhance everyday life.
Study Tour Locations
On the study tour we’ll visit a wide range of neighbourhoods and public spaces, including:
East Village and Chobham Manor: Compact mixed-use neighbourhoods.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park: a variety of spaces for recreation, play, movement, flood resilience and biodiversity.
Hackney Wick and Fish Island: Former industrial area regenerated into mixed use neighbourhood.
Here East: A mixed-use, education and innovation hub integrated with the canal.
